Finding Recruitment Agencies in Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire
Recruitment agencies can be useful when they genuinely recruit for the kind of work you are targeting. But a static “top agencies” ranking becomes unreliable quickly: offices move, consultants change, sector coverage shifts and an agency that is useful for one occupation may be irrelevant for another.
Use this page as a method for researching agencies, not as a league table.
Understand what an agency is doing
UK guidance distinguishes between employment agencies, which introduce work-seekers to employers, and employment businesses, which commonly supply temporary workers and pay them for assignments.
For current rules and worker protections, use the official GOV.UK employment agencies and businesses guidance and agency-worker rights guidance.
A recruitment agency generally cannot charge a work-seeker a fee simply for finding or trying to find them work. Separate paid services such as training or CV support may have different rules and should be clearly explained before you agree to them.
Research agencies by your target work
Rather than registering with every recruiter you can find:
- define your target role, sector and realistic travel area;
- search for agencies currently advertising relevant vacancies;
- check the agency’s own website and current contact details;
- read several recent vacancies to understand its actual sector coverage;
- check whether the recruiter is acting for permanent, temporary or contract work; and
- keep a simple record of who you contacted, what you discussed and what follow-up was agreed.
A useful recruiter should help you understand a real vacancy or market, not simply add your CV to another database.
Protect your information and verify the opportunity
Before sending documents or sensitive information:
- confirm that the recruiter and vacancy are genuine;
- use contact details from the organisation’s current official website where possible;
- be cautious about unexpected requests for money, bank details or identity documents before a legitimate recruitment need is established; and
- read any terms you are asked to accept.
Do not treat a recruiter contacting you as proof that a job offer exists.
Keep sponsorship separate from recruitment
An agency vacancy, recruiter statement or employer name does not by itself prove that a role is eligible for visa sponsorship or that you personally qualify for an immigration route.
If sponsorship matters to your search, use the controlled Find a UK Job research route and verify current employer and immigration information through official sources at the point of decision.
SCP provides career-development orientation, not immigration legal advice.
Build a wider Aberdeen job-search strategy
Agencies are only one channel. Also use:
- direct employer vacancy pages;
- Find a job — GOV.UK;
- sector and professional networks;
- public careers support such as My World of Work; and
- evidence-led applications tailored to the specific vacancy.
The strongest strategy is not to know the largest number of agency names. It is to know which recruiters currently work in your target market, which vacancies are genuine, what evidence the role requires, and what must still be independently verified.
