Agency and purposeful follow-through
MAGIC: strengthen the capabilities that help intention become responsible action.
MAGIC is a practical reflective model developed through SCP's earlier coaching and development work. It brings together five connected capabilities—Motivation, Assertiveness, Goal achievement, Initiative and Confident communication—without treating confidence or action as something that can be produced by slogans, pressure or a single assessment.
How to use MAGIC
Start with the capability that is limiting the next step.
MAGIC is not a fixed sequence and does not assume that someone lacks motivation or confidence. A person may need clearer communication rather than more motivation, or a smaller goal rather than more pressure. Use the lightest relevant part of the model, practise it in context and review what actually changes.
MAGIC 01
Motivation
Notice what matters, what gives the goal meaning and what conditions help effort become more deliberate rather than pressure-driven.
MAGIC 02
Assertiveness
Communicate needs, boundaries, ideas and disagreement clearly and respectfully while remaining open to evidence and other perspectives.
MAGIC 03
Goal achievement
Turn an intention into a specific, realistic outcome with observable actions, review points and room to adapt when circumstances change.
MAGIC 04
Initiative
Move from intention into proportionate action by identifying what can be started, tested, asked, practised or improved now.
MAGIC 05
Confident communication
Express evidence, experience and ideas with clarity while listening, checking understanding and avoiding performance for its own sake.
Connected but distinct
MAGIC supports agency; it does not choose the direction.
Use FOCUS when the main need is career information and direction, DREAM when the starting situation needs to be clarified, REST when capacity and sustainable rhythm need attention, and Meta-Skills when a wider capability-development view is useful.
Use MAGIC responsibly
MAGIC is a reflective, non-clinical development model. It does not diagnose confidence, motivation or mental health; guarantee performance or goal achievement; or replace safeguarding, clinical, legal, financial or other qualified support.
